Florence is the “Cradle of the Renaissance“, with its museums, palaces and churches, house of some of the most important artistic treasures of the world. When you say Florence, you name the last 7 centuries of the western culture.
Here Galileo hypothesized the heliocentric theory, Brunelleschi invented the perspective, Dante wrote the “Divina Commedia“, Lorenzo dei Medici opened the first Bank, Botticelli and Michelangelo invented the Renaissance art.
Among the places of art and best-known cult of the city are without doubt the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery, the Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello and the Galleria dell’Accademia. The two main churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are themselves art galleries, as well as the Laurentian Library is an ‘exceptional expression of Michelangelo’s architectural genius.
Outdoors you will find that in Florence it’s beautiful just walking the beautiful streets of the historical center. We will walk to reach the Arno, and we will focus on the romantic Ponte Vecchio and continue until the Oltrarno, the “new” neighborhood of Florence. Finally we will go up over the hill behind Piazzale Michelangelo and reach the Church of San Miniato al Monte to enjoy a ‘amazing view of Florence.
