THE “ROMANTIC ROAD” STRETCHES ALONG THE TUSCIA REGION FROM SOUTH TO NORTH, crossing a landscape of a unique beauty, respecting still today the authentic identity of Lazio. Tuscia was the ancient name given to the land of the Etruscans. It indicated the historical Etruscan area, Tuscany, Western Umbria and Northern Lazio.
We will discover the most hidden places, maybe less known but more characteristic and better preserved, where you can still enjoy the atmosphere of the past centuries.
There are hundreds of sites, from the Villanovian civilisation age to the Etruscans, the Romans, to Middle Age and Reinassance.
Those sites are immersed in rural and natural environment , surrounded by beauty and calmness, bringing you back in time along a Historical and Cultural path through natural wonders and mistery.
We start from BLERA, an Etruscan town which keeps the aspect of a Renaissance city, nested in an area populated by Etruscans and Romans. From Blera we move to CIVITELLA CESI, taking a narrow path leading us to the CASTELLO DI SAN GIOVENALE. The Castle and its archeological site sits isolated on a rock plateau facing a wonderful valley below.
Then we go to BARBARANO ROMANO, another small fortified village and to ORIOLO ROMANO, where the famous PALAZZO ALTIERI stands. Before reaching the BRACCIANO LAKE, we pay a visit to MONTERANO VECCHIA, one of the most suggestive “ghost town” of Italy and one of the magic places of Lazio.
By the lake, we reach the Orsini-Odescalchi Castle (Tyrone Power, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Martin Scorsese had their weddings there..) and the lake village of TREVIGNANO ROMANO. From the small and picturesque fishing village, a pleasant walk climbs to the 13th century FORTEZZA DEL PREFETTI DI VICO, a real mosaic of tufa and basalt stones, which offers an unforgettable view of the Bracciano Lake surrounded by green hills.
